Smooth sailing on the map
We're a little obsessed with how the map feels. Over the past few days we've been quietly tuning it behind the scenes — trimming the data each view carries and smoothing how it syncs — so the chart loads faster and stays responsive as you explore. Less waiting at anchor, more time planning your passage.
- Editing a spot on the map now refreshes only what changed, not the whole chart.
- The map holds its place — only the location you touched updates, the rest stays put.
- Faster point loading, so busy cruising grounds draw in quicker.
- Update
Your links now arrive in style
We've dreamed for ages of links that look as good as the trips they point to — and now they do. Share a plan or a spot and it unfurls into a proper preview, with a title, a description, and a beautiful image, wherever you drop it: WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, anywhere. A good first impression, even before anyone steps aboard.
- Shared links now open straight onto the map, right where the action is.
- Reporting or correcting a spot is friendlier — we pre-fill what we already know, so there's less to type.
- Update
Come aboard — new pages to explore
We wanted you to be able to get to know us properly, so we built a little harbour of new pages — Pricing, Our Story, Mission, and Become a Champion — and gave the whole landing experience a fresh coat of paint with warmer words and a tidier finish.
- The home strips are reorganised into clearer tiers, so the useful things are easier to find.
- A refreshed landing hero featuring the parts we're genuinely proud of.
- A clean, consistent footer across the public pages — including this very What's New page.
- Update
Filter the chart to your kind of haven
Every sailor has their own idea of the perfect stop. We've been turning this one over for months, and finally built the filter we always wanted: narrow the chart to exactly your kind of haven — by tags, by rating, and by how weather-friendly each spot is for the dates you're sailing.
- A weather-friendliness score for each haven, worked out for your chosen dates.
- On a phone the filter slides up as a handy sheet; on a desktop it tucks into a side flyout.
- Filter by a tag or rating and we tidy away the noise, so you see only what matters.
- Patch
Clearer markers, steadier map
This one is a love letter to the little details. We went hunting for the rough edges on the map — the kind you might never report but would quietly feel — and smoothed them out before they could bother you.
- Waypoints now fly a gently waving flag, and unverified anchorages stand out clearly, even in satellite view.
- Removing a spot that belongs to an active plan is safer — keep it as a draft and jump straight to the days that use it.
- Weather briefings now appear instantly as you compare candidate routes — we prepare them ahead of time.
- Searching for a boat now floats the best matches to the top.
- Patch
Quietly faster, quietly steadier
No new buttons this time — just a fortnight of behind-the-scenes work to make everything you already use a little quicker and a little sturdier. The unglamorous kind of release we're oddly fond of.
- Squashed a batch of bugs — the ones you reported, and a few you never had to.
- Trimmed load times across the map and the itinerary.
- Shored up the parts that used to wobble on a weak signal out at sea.
- Update
A better fit for your phone
So many of you plan from the helm, phone in hand — so we reimagined the small-screen experience from the keel up.
- A portrait card-stack search with clear Where and Yacht starting points.
- A tidier landscape layout with a single-line search bar and a slimmer top bar.
- When the itinerary gets busy, a merge-days toggle keeps it readable.
- Faster, unified weather behind both the map and the briefings.
- Update
Weather briefings for every leg
We've been dreaming of this one for years: a weather briefing that reads like a seasoned skipper talking you through the day. Now every leg of your itinerary carries one — wind, gusts, and waves, in plain sailing language rather than raw numbers.
- Beaufort wording and points-of-sail described in your own language.
- Ask the assistant to suggest weather-friendly havens when a day looks lively.
- Editable day-title dates and a tidy collapse / expand for the weather panel.
- Update
Find places the way you say them
Sailors come from everywhere, and they don't all spell a marina the same way. So we taught the search to understand places the way you actually say them, in the languages we speak — English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Greek and more, right through to Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hebrew. Type a haven however it comes naturally to you, and the right spot surfaces.
- Search by name even for places beyond your current map view.
- A forecast tile right on your home strip, linking through to the full weather view.
- Smoother loading overlays, so the map never feels stuck.
- Patch
Battening down the hatches
Keeping your plans and your account safe is a promise we take seriously, so we spent this week on security and privacy hardening — the kind of work you'll never see, but can quietly count on.
- Tightened how we guard your account and the plans you share.
- Hardened the parts of the app that talk to the outside world.
- Routine bug fixes and clean-ups along the way.
- Update
Let your AI first mate find the spot
We've always believed planning a trip should feel like chatting with a knowledgeable friend. Ask in plain language — fuel near the marina, a quiet bay for lunch — and your AI first mate finds the spots, drops numbered markers on the chart, and even pulls up our curated local guides.
- AI search results land as numbered markers, matched to the pills in the chat.
- A dedicated Search results filter, so you can focus on exactly what you asked for.
- Curated local knowledge surfaced right inside the assistant's answers.
- Update
Plan together — share with skipper and crew
Sailing is a team sport, and planning should be too. We've wanted this since day one: now you can hand your plan to the people who matter — share an itinerary with your skipper, or invite your crew aboard.
- Clear ribbons show what's shared with your skipper and what's shared with crew.
- Crew sharing woven right into the home strips and the itinerary panel.
- A new AI filter on the map that lights up with the assistant's suggestions.
- Patch
Day plans that actually float
A plan is only any good if you can actually sail it. We taught the planner to keep each day realistic — checking that the distances are feasible and reining in overly ambitious legs — so the routes it suggests are ones you'll genuinely enjoy.
- Like your favourite itineraries and keep them to hand, favourites first.
- The share menu is now open to visitors, with a one-tap Add to plan.
- No more surprise location prompt the first time you open the map.
- Patch
Smoothing out the maiden voyage
Every launch has its creaks. You sailed with us through that first week and told us exactly where it pinched — and we got straight to work.
- Fixed the rough edges you flagged in those opening days.
- Steadied sign-in and the map on slower connections.
- Lots of small polish, so the whole experience feels a little calmer underfoot.
- Major release
MyFirstMate 2.0 — your sailing co-pilot sets sail
This is the big one. After months of late nights, far too much coffee, and more sailing daydreams than we can count, we're thrilled to launch MyFirstMate 2.0 — a complete reimagining of how you dream up, plan, and share a sailing trip. We set out to build the sailing companion we always wished we had, and this is its maiden voyage.
- An AI sailing assistant that helps you plan routes, find marinas, and answer almost anything.
- A beautiful interactive chart of marinas, anchorages, and local gems.
- An itinerary planner that turns ideas into day-by-day plans you can share.
- Invite your crew and share with your skipper, so everyone sails in sync.
- Sign in by email with a warm, simple onboarding.
- Richer forecasts powered by a brand-new weather pipeline.
Thank you for coming aboard. This is only the beginning — we're already dreaming up what's next.
